How long has the organization been in existence?
The model for LIFT - Levántate and Levántate! was initially developed in 2006 and we received our non-profit (501c3) status from the IRS in 2008.
Is LIFT - Levántate only for teens?
No, LIFT - Levántate is for children, teens and adults. When we went to register our domain name for the LIFT - Levántate website, LIFT - Levántate.org was already taken, so we added “For Teens” at that time since teens are an area of special focus.
Is LIFT - Levántate only providing programs in Marin County?
LIFT - Levántate is based in San Rafael and began its work in Marin. While we still have much to accomplish locally, we are expanding our programs throughout the Bay area, California and beyond.
What can you tell me about your Board?
LIFT - Levántate is very fortunate to have a well-rounded Board of Directors and Advisors with tremendous breadth of expertise. We have leaders in public and community health, academic research, organizational leadership, finance, networking, physical activity and nutrition, family therapy, youth development, program evaluation and more. Our Directors and Advisors represent a variety of cultural, ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds and interests.
Who are your staff and instructors?
We have dedicated and experienced staff, interns and volunteers who bring a wide range of skills and experiences to our programs. We have nutrition educators, community health educators and researchers, athletic coaches, event planners, peer leaders, Zumba dancers and more. Our staff are positive, energetic and wonderful human beings who care deeply about LIFT - Levántate and the families we work with.
How do families afford your programs?
Our programs are provided free to low-income children and families.
How is LIFT - Levántate currently funded?
We are fortunate to have the support of foundations like the Marin Charitable Association, the BNI-Misner Charitable Foundation, the Referral institute Foundation as well as private individuals who believe in our mission.
Is LIFT - Levántate’s work sustainable over time?
Yes, as many program participants referred by medical practitioners will be reimbursable by Medi-Cal and other insurance programs.
How can I assist LIFT - Levántate?
LIFT - Levántate welcomes assistance in a variety of ways. You can donate funds online or by sending a check. We have many volunteer and internship opportunities available. Many individuals and businesses generously donate their time, expertise and services to our organization or directly to the participants in our programs via LIFT - Levántate and Levántate.
Do you offer ongoing Zumba classes?
We have a close partnership with many Zumba instructors and include Zumba in many of our workshops and community events. It is one of the results-based, non-competitive yet challenging, physical activities we offer. |
