pravtizPatricia Ravitz

I am a licensed psychotherapist with more than 30 years experience treating people with food, weight, and body image concerns.  I specialize in the treatment of binge eating and bulimia.  My therapeutic style is interactive, sensitive and compassionate.  My work is based on establishing a relationship with my client that is safe, and where trust can grow.

I view symptoms as a way of calling attention to unrecognized needs and unexpressed feelings.

I see compulisve eating and purging as attempts to self-medicate anxiety and depression.  Obsessing about food and weight often functions as a distraction from life issues that are difficult to face.

I am a member of the Association of Professionals Treating Eating Disorders.  I offer individual, group, family and couples therapy to adults and adolescents struggling with disordered eating and body image issues.

Testimonials

"I am a single mother of an overweight teen. At 17 years of age, she weighs over 200 lbs. Frankly, my daughter's condition is alarming, her sense of denial is profound and I feel helpless in any of my efforts to facilitate change for her. I was excited to learn that there was such an organization as yours."
--Karen B., Petaluma, CA
